Compulsory Basic Training

There are five elements to Compulsory Basic training, and these are delivered by Approved Training Bodies. Approved Training bodies are Motorcycle Trainers who are approved by the Driving Standards Agency and have an approved site for off-road training. The five elements are

A. At the beginning of the course your trainer will talk about the aims of the course, legal requirements and equipment and clothing.

B. Controls of the bike - foot controls, handlebar controls; the stand; wheeling the bike; starting the engine

C. Riding - clutch control, braking, indicating and maoeuvring, moving off and stopping, turns at junctions, u-turns

D. Classroom session

E. On - road riding.

If you have performed adequately and show that you are aware of the need to continue practising then you will be given your certificate of completion (DL196).

The CBT certificate validates your provisional licence and must be kept with it and produced when required (eg when requested by the police) and at your practical test. It is valid for 2 years. If you lose it your training centre will be able to provide you with a duplicate
